Established in 1828 by Belfast Botanic and Horticultural Society, in response to public interest in horticulture and botany, the Gardens contained exotic tree species and impressive plant collections, many of which can still be seen in the park today. Re-opened as a public park in 1895 with numerous walking trails and walkways, visitors can visit The Palm House and Tropical Ravine, both of which house tropical plants and hanging baskets.
Botanic Gardens is often used for events, such as band recitals, concerts and opera performances.
